Activate your license and change your computer

After your purchase you find your personal activation code in your customer portal. With this code you can unlock memozero for one device. This article shows you how to enter the code and how you move to another device if needed. To learn how you start a subscription, what it costs, and how you cancel, read Subscribe and manage your plan.

The activation code

Every activation code has 16 characters. You find your code in the customer portal in this form: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.

The app states it like this: “This code is valid for 30 days”. Please note that a code is valid for 30 days from the time it is generated. If you start memozero only after that, simply generate a new code in the customer portal. After you redeem it, your code is used up. If you need a new code, for example after you move to a new device or because the old one expired, click Regenerate in the customer portal. You get a new code right away.

The code contains no characters that you can easily mix up. It has no O, no I, and no L. So if you type the code by hand and you are unsure about a character, it is a zero or a one.

Enter the code

You enter a code in two places: in the setup after the first start and on the notice screen when your license has expired. The settings have no input field for the code.

If you want to enter the code, proceed as follows:

  1. Sign in to the customer portal in your browser.
  2. Copy the activation code to the clipboard.
  3. Start memozero on the device that you want to unlock.
  4. Wait for the heading Activate memozero. Below it you see “Enter your license code to activate”.
  5. Paste the code with Ctrl + V (Windows) or Cmd + V (macOS). memozero spreads it across the four blocks automatically.
  6. Type the code by hand only if you cannot copy it. The cursor moves to the next block by itself after four characters.
  7. Click Redeem.

If the code that you entered is valid, the message “License Verified” appears. Below it you see “We are finalizing your local AI environment.” memozero then downloads the models that your device needs, including speaker recognition, and sets up your local environment.

If the activation fails

If you run into one of the following problems while you generate a code or activate memozero, please try the following first:

Work without internet

memozero checks your license online, but it never waits for an internet connection at start. The app reads the local proof first and only then checks in the background whether your license is still valid. Thus you can start work immediately.

Your files, the editor, and the export remain available without internet, permanently. Only transcribing requires a valid license. For that, memozero confirms online from time to time that your license is still valid. This happens in the background as soon as a connection is available.

If memozero could not confirm the license for a longer time and no internet connection is available, the app shows the notice “Internet Connection Required for Verification”. Please then connect your device to the internet for a moment. The check then runs by itself.

This screen contains the sentence: “Only the key is validated. Your audio and transcript data will not leave this device.”

One device per license

A license applies to exactly one device at a time. The terms of use state this too. memozero identifies your device by an individually calculated, unique check value. To do this, the app builds this check value from stable properties of the device.

Only this check value goes to the server. Serial numbers and hardware data in clear text do not leave your device.

Changes the check valueDoes not change it
A new mainboardAn update of memozero
A newly installed operating systemA new installation of memozero
A different deviceA restart of the device

In the customer portal you see the linked device with a simple name such as “Windows (x64)” or “Mac (arm64)”, together with the date of the activation.

If an institution needs memozero on several devices, that is possible through several licenses. We clarify special conditions for this on request through the contact form and at p.jaeckel@memozero.io.

Move to another device

If you want to use memozero on a different device than before, proceed as follows:

Note: Your transcripts do not (!) move with the license. They remain local on your old device. Please therefore export beforehand what you want to keep editing on your new device.

  1. Sign in to the customer portal.
  2. Copy the activation code. If necessary, click Regenerate and generate a new code.
  3. Install memozero on the new device.
  4. Enter the code there and click Redeem.
  5. Then check in the customer portal that the new device is recorded there.

You do not need to sign out on the old device. The activation on the new device releases the old link automatically.

Where you see the condition of your license

In the app, open Settings > License & Payment. Click the small info icon there. memozero then shows you this data:

  • the email address of your account,
  • the status of the license,
  • the plan,
  • the activation date,
  • “Renews At”, or “Expires At” after a cancellation,
  • the remaining days,
  • “Last Verified” with the time of the last online check.

The entry “Last Verified” shows when memozero last confirmed your license online. If you work a lot without internet, it is worth a look.
