Settings at a glance
The settings collect everything that does not belong to a single transcript: appearance, language, privacy, help and your licence. You reach the page through the footer of the sidebar. Your email address is there, and a click opens the Account Settings page. This article walks you through every tab and explains what it can and cannot do.
The tabs at a glance
The page groups the tabs in three groups. The list on the left follows this order.
| Group | Tab |
|---|---|
| Account & Plan | License & Payment |
| Account & Plan | Danger Zone |
| Application Settings | Dictionary |
| Application Settings | Appearance |
| Application Settings | App language |
| Application Settings | Privacy Settings |
| Application Settings | Keyboard shortcuts |
| Application Settings | Transcription engine (Beta) |
| Information & Support | Guides & Help |
| Information & Support | Legal information |
| Information & Support | Open Source & Credits |
| Information & Support | System |
When you open the page, the License & Payment tab is always active.
Danger Zone
Caution: The Danger Zone contains exactly one action, Delete all data. This action deletes your work permanently. There is no waste bin and no undo. Export a backup first if you still need the results.
After you click the button, a dialog appears. There you type the word Delete exactly as it is shown. Case counts. Only then does memozero run the action.
What memozero deletes
memozero deletes:
- All transcriptions including words, speakers and comments.
- The stored audio files.
- The helper files created from them.
What remains
The following remain:
- The dictionary.
- The licence.
- All settings, including shortcuts, appearance and language.
- The downloaded AI models.
- The log files.
- The usage statistics on the home page, because memozero saves them first.
The app itself stays set up. If you want to remove the app completely, you must also uninstall it through the operating system.
Dictionary
Under this tab you maintain your specialist terms and correction pairs. You add words with the Add word button, edit them with the pencil icon and delete them with the waste-bin icon. How the dictionary affects a transcription and where its limits are is described in the separate article Dictionary.
Appearance
Under the heading App Appearance you decide whether memozero uses the light or the dark theme. You have the following three options:
| Choice | Effect |
|---|---|
| Use system setting | The app follows the default of your operating system and changes with it when you change that default. |
| Light Theme | The app stays light, regardless of the operating system. |
| Dark Theme | The app stays dark, regardless of the operating system. |
The choice takes effect immediately; you see the result without leaving the page, and you can switch back at any time.
If you correct at the screen for a long time, the dark theme is often more comfortable. Many text programs offer the same setting. It is worth setting both the same, so that the change between windows stays calm.
App language
This tab controls the language of the interface. Three options are available here as well.
- Use system setting: memozero checks the language of your operating system. If it starts with
de, the app shows German. Any other system language results in English. - German: the interface stays German.
- English: the interface stays English.
memozero exists in exactly these two languages. Further languages are not available. The change takes effect immediately; you do not need to restart the app.
The language reaches beyond the interface. It controls which legal texts the app links. It also controls the language in which the export writes its headings. If you export a transcript for an English-speaking recipient, switch the app to English before the export.
Privacy
The Privacy Settings tab asks one question: “Allow memozero to collect anonymous data?” It has exactly one switch labelled I allow memozero to send anonymous technical data.
On a new installation this switch is disabled by the system. memozero therefore transmits nothing until you consent yourself. It is a consent, not an opt-out. The app asks the same question once during setup.
What memozero transmits with your consent
- Technical logs (anonymous error reports)
- Usage data (which models and which file formats you have used)
- Performance (the processing speed)
- Basic device data (operating system, processor, memory, graphics card and app version)
Before sending, memozero automatically removes your email address, credentials, activation codes, user paths and media file names. memozero automatically replaces these details with placeholders before sending.
What never leaves your device
These data never leave your device:
- Your audio files.
- Your transcripts.
- Your personal content.
Crash reports also stay local. memozero writes them to disk and does not upload them.
For the licence check, the download of the models and the transcription service, as well as the check for updates and the release notes, memozero uses the internet without a separate prior consent. (Exceptions can exist in the case of institutional use under an individual agreement with the client and are recorded in writing.)
Keyboard shortcuts
Under this tab you can assign Play / Pause and the two 5-second skips to keys of your choice. For each action you can set two keys or key combinations. That way you can, for example, use a foot pedal for Play / Pause. The full description, including bindings and prompts, is in Playback and keyboard shortcuts.
Transcription engine (Beta)
This tab is intended for beta tests and support diagnosis. There you choose the engine family for new and restarted transcriptions.
Guides & Help
This tab contains two buttons. View Tutorials leads to the documentation on this website, exactly where you are reading now. Contact Form also takes you to our website, where you can contact us directly. In both cases you need an internet connection.
Legal information
Here you find the company details and the links to the imprint, the app privacy policy and the terms and conditions. In addition a template for a consent declaration under the GDPR is available for download. You can use it when you record a conversation and want to record the consent of the people involved in writing. The language of the legal texts follows the app language.
Open Source & Credits
This tab is information only. A table names the building blocks with their developer and a link: Whisper by OpenAI, Faster-Whisper and CTranslate2 by SYSTRAN, Insanely-Fast-Whisper, pyannote.audio, WhisperX, whisper.cpp and pywhispercpp. Anyone who wants to know what the transcription is built on finds the answer here.
System
The System tab helps you and therefore also us with troubleshooting. It offers two actions.
- View System Info opens a window with the app version, the operating system, the detected compute device, the state of CUDA, Metal, MLX and FFmpeg, the installed models and the state of both services. A button copies the whole content as text to the clipboard.
- Export Support Bundle writes a file with redacted log data to a location that you choose.
The support bundle stays local; memozero does not send it automatically. It contains only technical data. Audio files, transcripts and your licence are never included; memozero redacts your email address, user paths and media file names before it writes the file. You decide yourself whether and to whom you pass the file on.
What to read next
- Dictionary: add and maintain specialist terms and correction pairs.
- Playback and keyboard shortcuts: player, speed and the assignable keys.
- Activate your licence and change device: licence key, device binding and the move to another device.
